The not so good news…..

3 Oct

Having sent the engine down to Murray at Peninsular Jag, I got some sobering news

The engine has already +30 pistons and bore wear is minimal but 6 out of the 8 pistons had broken top rings and one has blown the top ring out needing all the pistons to be taken out to +40 and replaced, all the big end bearing shells down to copper. The centre main bearing cap and the one infront of it number 2 is actualy snapped and need to be replaced then line bored. The timing chain is original and the tensioner was threatening to pop out.The crankshaft end float is twice what it should be.

One saving grace is that the heads are pretty good for corrosion but will require a couple of welds, so on top of the normal replacement parts the cost has gone up some what more than originally budgeted.

So what should have been fairly simple may take more time and definitely more money.
